About Us

Katy Wright is the wife to Kaleb Wright (financial advisor at Edward Jones) and the mom to Kash and Kensington. Katy attended college at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM. She has lived in southern New Mexico her entire life and couldn’t be happier to called Lovington home.

Katy Wright has been teaching dance since 2011 as a lead teacher. Katy received her dance education from Karen Salb (owner of Maciolek School of Dance), Cheryl Jenkins (owner of Cheryl’s School of Dance), Cheri Young (owner of Just Dance! Studio and Spirit director at Carlsbad High School), Tenisha Graham (owner of Tenisha and Co.), and Jolene Beaty(Chaparral dancer at UNM). She began her adult career at the Lovington Municipal Schools as their elementary dance teacher. She spent 3 years in the district as a dancer teacher for all 5 elementary schools as well as 1 year as a cheer coach. She has 30 years of dance experience and 4 years of cheer experience. She was a member of Cheryl’s School of Dance competition team, an original member of Just Dance! Studio’s competitive team, as well as a 4 year member of CHS Dance Company. As a student at Just Dance she was offered a position as a teacher’s assistant which multiplied her dream of becoming a dance educator. Katy was a member of Dancers Unlimited at NMSU and spent time as their fundraising chair. Katy has taken workshops from Angelo Moio, Donna Shepherd, Marlena Arellano, Ryan Lohoff and many others.

Katy Wright opened The Wright School of Dance in June 2013. Her students began competing in Spring 2015. She and her students have won many well rounded studio awards, as well as studio professionalism awards. WSD has danced at Disney World Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Universal Studios in Orlando Florida, with Dance the World. Her students have competed at competitions such as Nexstar, AMP, and Starquest in Texas. She has taken students to Hollywood Vibe dance convention twice in the last 5 years. Katy owns, runs, and teaches at the only competitive studio in Lea County. Wright School of Dance offers classes in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Hip-Hop, Musical Theater, and Cheerleading. WSD has created 2 opportunities for our students to perform The Polar Express in December and our annual Spring recital in May. We are a women run and operated business!

Katy has been one of the Lovington Big Blue Band Color guard sponsors for the last 5 years. She enjoys being able to work with other fine art genres and creating movement for students in our school district. She has also helped choreograph off and on for the Lovington High School choir, as well as doing choreography for the Lovington High School Cheerleaders. Go Cats! She has worked with the community playhouse on Shrek Jr., The Musical. Katy has had students continue their dance careers in college.

Katy Wright is a member of Dance Studio Owners Association and a CLI Studios member. She has taken the Elements of Dance course with National Dance Educators Organization. Her studio currently uses the curriculum: The Ballet Source, Adapt Syllabus, and United Taps. In her personal time she is a hostess for the Lovington Toy Tee, which is an organization that raises money to purchase Christmas gifts for students within the Lovington Municipal School District. She is also a member of New Hope Ministries Church. Katy currently teaches Baby and Me, Level 1 and 2 combo tap/ballet classes, Kindergarten Ballet and Jazz, Competitive Jazz, Competitive Lyrical, and competitive Musical Theater. She does ballet choreography for Polar Express and has created all of the Jazz, Lyrical and Tap lesson plans based off of the curriculum WSD uses, My goal is to create students who have a love and appreciation for dance and the fine arts. I hope they see genuine love from myself and my teachers. We strive to create a fun and challenging environment for our students.
