The Wright School of Dance
About Us
The Wright School of Dance was founded in 2013 by Katy Wright with the mission of creating a joyful, challenging, and supportive environment where students can grow in both skill and confidence. Located in Lovington, New Mexico, we are proud to be Lea County’s original competitive dance studio, offering high-quality instruction in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Hip-Hop, Irish, Musical Theater, and Cheerleading.
Katy Wright brings over 30 years of dance experience and more than a decade of teaching to the studio. A lifelong resident of southern New Mexico, Katy studied dance under respected instructors such as Karen Salb, Cheryl Jenkins, Cheri Young, Tenisha Graham, and Jolene Beaty. Her performance background includes competitive dance teams, collegiate dance with Dancers Unlimited at NMSU, and choreography roles with Lovington Municipal Schools, Big Blue Band Color Guard, Lovington High School Choir Drama, and Cheer, and the Hobbs Community Playhouse.
Since its opening, The Wright School of Dance has earned numerous awards for excellence and professionalism, and our students have performed at Disney World, Epcot, Universal Studios, and top regional competitions like Nexstar, AMP, and Starquest. We are proud to be a women-run and operated business that not only trains dancers, but helps shape confident, creative individuals.
Our studio offers two major annual performance opportunities: The Polar Express in December and our Spring Recital in May. We use top-tier dance curriculums, including The Ballet Source for our young dancers prek3-kindergarten, Dance Studio Syllabus for Ballet and Jazz for students in 1st-12th grade, and United Taps for students in 1st-12th grade, to ensure a strong technical foundation for our students.
Katy is a member of the Dance Studio Owners Association and has completed coursework with the National Dance Education Organization. She continues to share her passion for dance with students of all ages, from toddlers in “Baby and Me” to advanced competitive teams.
At The Wright School of Dance, our goal is to inspire a lifelong love for dance and the arts. We believe every dancer deserves to be seen, challenged, and celebrated.
